SAUGERTIES, N.Y. — The director of Speckled Frog Playcare is facing three additional felony charges related to the filing of phony fire inspection papers and a fake certificate of occupancy at her Twin Maple Plaza business, Saugerties police said Thursday.
Angie (Minew) Paone, 42, of U.S. Route 9W, West Camp, the director of the child care service at 8 Twin Maples Plaza, was arrested by Saugerties police Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 13, and was charged with two counts each of falsifying business records and offering a false instrument for filing, all felonies.
On Thursday, police added the charges of forgery, offering a false instrument for filing and falsifying business records, all felonies, to the original charges.
Paone is a former member of the Saugerties Board of Education and was an unsuccessful Republican candidate for the Ulster County Legislature in 2015. She served on the school board and ran for office using the name Angie Minew.
On Tuesday, police said Paone’s arrest followed an investigation involving the town of Saugerties Building Department and the state Office of Children and Family Services, which found that Paone “had intentionally filed documents she created … indicating she was in compliance with annual fire inspections.”
Paone also created a phony certificate of occupancy for one portion of the Day Care Center, “filing the paperwork as if she had received such certificate from the Town of Saugerties Building Department,” police said.
A portion of the daycare business has been shut down and the state Office of Children and Family Services is “still conducting their investigation, which will determine if complete revocation of license is deemed warranted,” Police Chief Joseph Sinagra said via email on Wednesday.
