Daniel Andrews has had another round of choice words for his political opponents just one day out from the Victorian election.
The Premier made the comments while at a Northcote kindergarten in Melbourne’s north on Friday morning.
Mr Andrews zeroed in on his party’s removal of level crossings over the past two terms, the continuation of which he said the opposition planned to “scrap”.
“That program will be scrapped if the Liberals win the election tomorrow,” he said.
Mr Andrews then barked back at a reporter’s question about the Liberal Party’s costings, which were released on Thursday and explained how futher level crossing removals would be funded.
“The Coalition’s costings say they have $8bn for 29 level crossing removals…” the reporter asked before being interupted by Mr Andrews saying “no”.
“Well, you can go and have a chat to them. Have they worked out how much it all costs yet? Have they tallied it all up yet?”
Mr Andrews went on to further explain how he believed the Liberals’ would tackle level crossing removals if elected.
“They have scrapped the level crossing removal program except for a handful in Malvern. That’s what they think leadership looks like,” he said.
“Making one community safe, instead of getting rid of 110 level crossings … they are essentially cutting the program and that makes no sense.”
The commentary came as Mr Andrews was in Northcote promising a $24m funding boost for kindergartens and tech schools across the state.
Families would save up to $2500 per child, per year under the scheme, according to the government.
Mr Andrews pledged $15m for one-off grants of $5000 for each kindergarten in the state.
An further $3.6m would be used to start 150 Bush Kinder programs each year, broken down into $6000 grants.
Ten new bilingual kinders across the state would be established using funds of $3.7m.
Free kinder was an earlier election promise for three and four-year-olds through 50 government-owned and operated childcare centres.
