About the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Students)

The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students) provides administrative support to key strategic and operational functions of the University’s student-related and academic services. Under the general portfolio, the Office team support Portfolio leadership and facilitate dialogue between key service areas to help the Portfolio ensure Flinders’ educational offerings are innovative, of assured quality, and are student centred. About the Role

As the Outreach and Pathways Officer, you will assist with the promotion and delivery of Flinders University programs, and initiatives aimed at increasing Indigenous school students and adult community learners’ participation in higher education. Your role will be integral in building strong partnerships with targeted schools and community organisations in South Australia and the Northern Territory to actively promote Flinders University courses, pathways, and transitions. You will develop and implement tailored and responsive Yunggorendi Student Engagement programs and initiatives, including annual recruitment and engagement plans to connect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The role is also responsible for assisting with the review, evaluation and reporting on programs, and providing recommendations to continuously improve program outcomes and culturally sensitive service delivery.

About You 

With your strong knowledge about historical and contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and societies, you will harness your well-developed interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with prospective students, staff, and community stakeholders in a culturally appropriate manner. You will connect your passion for Indigenous education advocacy with your knowledge and understanding of Flinders University courses and admission pathways. You will demonstrate excellence in producing and presenting marketing, communication and digital content and collateral tailored for Indigenous secondary students and adult community members.

Your keen attention to detail will allow you to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and demonstrate commitment to high quality service delivery that is innovative and relevant. You will excel in autonomously achieving outcomes and will always demonstrate initiative as you strive for improving current engagement plans and processes.

To be successful in this position, you will:

  • Acquire tertiary qualification or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
  • Demonstrate high level computer skills and familiarity with associated software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), including experience in the use of emerging technologies in the delivery of services.
  • Effectively work internally with the Prospective Students Office and Student Recruitment.

Prescribed Conditions for Employment:

  • It is a requirement of this position that the incumbent maintain a current Working With Children Check which is satisfactory to the University in accordance with the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016 (SA).
  • Northern Territory Government legislation (the Care and Protection of Children Act 2007) now requires all individuals in child related employment or whose duties involve, or are likely to involve, contact with a child, to hold a valid ‘Working with Children Clearance’ (Ochre Card). This position involves child related work and is assessed as requiring a Working with Children Clearance/Ochre Card.
  • A National Police Certificate which is satisfactory to the University will be required by Flinders University before the successful applicant can commence in this position.
  • An up to date COVID-19 vaccination may be required as a condition of employment, in accordance with the Flinders University COVID-19 Vaccination Policy (2022). If required, any offer of employment will be subject to the successful candidate presenting their COVID-19 Digital Certificate as evidence of vaccination or showing evidence of a valid medical exemption, where relevant.
