The Cook County/Grand Marais Joint Economic Development Authority (EDA) announced January 13 that Beth Drost has resigned as executive director, effective January 20, 2023.

Drost leaves to pursue a new chapter in her career, as Executive Director of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe.

Drost has been in the position since her appointment in August of 2021. During her leadership, the Board completed a comprehensive housing study that is informing the work of the newly created Housing and Redevelopment Authority, secured several large grants for business development in the county, and recently finalized a $180,000 child care grant from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) to ensure working families in Cook County and Grand Portage have access to affordable child care.

The Board of Commissioners will begin the process of appointing new leadership right away. In the interim, Pat Campanaro, SBDC Small Business Advisor will serve as Acting Director, reporting to incoming EDA President, Steve Surbaugh.

“We appreciate the service and dedication Beth has given to the EDA. We wish her much success in her new role; she is an asset to any team.” says Howard Hedstrom, outgoing EDA president.

The Cook County Grand Marais EDA helps new and existing businesses to succeed through confidential business counseling, resources, and guidance. The EDA is dedicated to strengthening the business community to ensure economic development and growth in Cook County. Visit the new website at: www.cookcountymneda.org

The next EDA meeting is Jan. 17 at 4 p.m. in the Cook County Courthouse, Commissioner’s Room. Find the agenda here.
